Recession Pushing Many Americans in U.S. Healthcare System

To a group of 200 journalists locked inside a Washington auditorium, U.S. Surgeon General Luther Terry releases a report concluding that smoking cigarettes causes lung cancer in men and is a probable cause in women. It also says that researchers had  found no evidence that filters on cigarettes reduce the risk--disputing a persistent claim of the tobacco industry. Now considered a landmark document in U.S. public health history, the report's release had been scheduled on a Saturday morning to reduce the impact on the stock market. Read more
